The Project

The Coalhouse Fort Project (registered charity No. 289952) is an organisation dedicated to the preservation of Coalhouse Fort. This volunteer group has opened the fort to the public every year since 1983.

The objectives of the Project are:

1. To preserve, restore and maintain Coalhouse Fort for the benefit of the public.

2. To advance the education of the public in the general history of coastal defence fortifications with special reference to the inception and design of Coalhouse Fort and its subsequent development.

Work in progress

--------------------------------------------

Coalhouse Fort has been identified as a Scheduled Monument, 'At Risk' Whilst a good part of the Fort is sound and can be opened to the public there are areas that require extensive work. It is the long term aim of the The Project to restore these areas to their former condition. Until the funding is obtained and the work completed these areas have to be placed 'Out of Bounds' to the general public as they are in many cases structurally unsound and unsafe to visit. We have photographed some of these areas where it has been safe to do so and as you will see there is a great deal of work to be undertaken. With help and support we are sure that our aims will eventually be realised and that the entire Fort will once again be fully accessable.

The Project welcomes help, both practical and financial. If you would like to assist the Project in its aims, please contact us. Or....

If you would like to support us by way of a Donation, however small, you can do so using any major credit card through our Paypal Donation Scheme. Thank you.
